Today in Library we will learn about Memorial Day

in order to explain its history and significance.

Memorial Day is a holiday in the United States. It is a day set aside to honor Americans who died for their country. It is also called Decoration Day. People place flowers and flags on the graves of soldiers and others who served in a war. In the past, Memorial Day honored soldiers who died in the Civil War (1861–1865). Today, the holiday honors those who died in any war while serving the United States.

Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday in May. It is a legal holiday, and many businesses and government offices close on this day.
